The Most Common Causes of Hair Loss
Barb Cronin
While hair loss is more common than many may think, the causes of hair loss are not well known, explained or treatable. Most people experience hair loss or thinning hair at some point in their life. Whether the causes of hair loss are permanent or temporary depends on the cause.

Two Types of Hair Loss
  1. Patchy Hair Loss.
Often referred to as “balding”, patchy hair loss is often not genetic related or pattern baldness. The cause of hair loss in this case may be genetic.

  1. Generalized Hair Loss.
Characterized by thinning of the hair all over the head with no part of the head having normal hair growth; the cause of hair loss here may be temporary as in a diet problem or recent traumatic body event.

Causes of Hair Loss

One of the main reasons a person loses his or her hair is because of genetics. A simple look at the hair pattern of your family can help determine this. If your father has hair loss, and his father too then chances are your experience with hair loss is genetic.

A second common cause of hair loss is physical occurrences in your body. Thyroid issues, diet deficiency of important nutrients like proteins or iron, as well as recent child birth and cancer treatments. Pharmaceuticals may cause unusual hair loss too.

If you’re concerned about hair loss, the first step is determining the cause of hair loss for you. Once you do, you can take simple steps to resolve hair loss or just accept it as part of life. If you choose to stop your hair loss, there are many options. From prescription treatments to all natural remedies and diet many have been able to not only halt but reverse hair loss.

Once you know the cause of hair loss for you do some research and you’ll discover a wealth of alternatives to treat hair loss. If you’re okay with it and then let it go – literally - after all, most adults at some point in their life experience it too.
