Choosing Natural Skin Care Products for Healthy, Younger Looking Skin
Barb Cronin

We all want to look fresh and healthy from our hair down to our toes. What's in between there? Skin, of course. Your skin is the body's largest organ so if you want it to look good you have to treat it good. Natural skin care products nurture your skin from the outside in; eating healthy nourishes your skin from the inside out – both vital for glowing, radiant, and ageless skin.

Natural Skin Care Products: What's the Difference from Synthetic Products?

Natural skin care products utilize ingredients found in their all natural, original state directly from the source – Mother Nature. Many synthetic products use ingredients that mimic the effects of all natural ingredients. Why opt for something that's artificial when you can go directly to the source and take advantage of the amazing, comprehensive benefits all natural skin care products offer?

Some of the ingredients in synthetic products are harsh and irritating and actually damage the skin rather than enrich and nurture it. When you use natural skin care products, you're helping your body heal and stay healthy on its own.

Most natural skin care products are safer, less irritating and more cost effective than their synthetic counterparts.

Buyer Beware: Not all Natural Skin Care Products are the Same

With the renewed concern for the environment, green living and treating the body with care many consumers are looking for "green" products or "all natural" options for skin care and personal care. Many companies know this and are taking full advantage of this. They create products and call them "all natural" when they're really full of synthetic ingredients, preservatives, dyes and fragrances that just aren't "green" or healthy.

As a consumer today it pays to know what to look for and what to avoid on labels for natural skin care products. Avoid parabens and any laurel sulfate ingredients; dyes (yes, take a look at a few labels and see just how many dangerous dyes are in there) and fragrances. There are no criteria for claiming to be "all natural" and many companies are falsely doing so.

A good rule that I follow is the same with the food I eat; if I can easily read all of the ingredients and know what they are I'm in, if not forget it!

If you really want to know about the dangerous ingredients in personal care products do some research (or stay tuned to this blog) and get the whole story. Most people are exposed to more toxic chemicals through their personal care products than any other source.

As with any skin care routine there are three important parts; cleansing, toning and moisturizing. Find a company you trust, know your ingredients and purchase an all natural skin care product for each of the three skin care steps.

Eat right, exercise and take good care of your skin – all naturally – and you'll love what you see when you look in the mirror.
